Purpose:
The Microsoft Office Project Server Archive Tool (MOPSAT) is
a tool used to support an archive process methodology. This process includes several steps that
unless automated would take considerable time for an administrator to
complete. Below are the steps of the
process and the tools used to do them.
Things were working just fine at first but now you have around 1000 projects and things are getting slow: Project Center views take minutes to load, cancelled or closed projects clog up the system and views that filter them out take longer to appear than views that include them. Users are complaining that their My Tasks view is cluttered. You need a archival process methodology.

To Archive:
- ·
Move project to hidden category (MOPSAT)
- ·
Archive the project to archive database with
unlimited retention policy (MOPSAT)
- ·
Backup WSS site(s) (Issues, Risks and Documents)
(MOPSAT and STSADM)
- ·
Delete Project from Draft and Published Database
(MOPSAT)
- ·
Delete WSS site (MOPSAT)
To Restore
- ·
Restore Project,
if needed (MOPS)
- ·
Republish Project (Project Pro)
- ·
Restore WSS site (MOPSAT and STSADM)
MOPSAT User Interface:
The MOPSAT user interface provides for the creation of a
list of one or more projects that can be processed with one or more of the
archival action steps.
Creation of the list:
The list of projects can be created by two methods
- Reading the list using the Project Server PSI as
the datasource.
- Reading a excel spreadsheet as the datasource.
Once the datasource is read the list can be filtered using a
SQL where part statement or manually selecting deleting project(s) that should not be processed by MOPSAT.

Process Actions:
The following process actions are supported in MOPSAT.- ·
Move Project(s) to a selected category
- ·
Move Project(s) to Archive Database
- ·
Backup WSS site(s)
- ·
Delete from Published Database
- ·
Delete WSS site
- ·
Delete from both Databases

Log view:
MOPSAT also provides a detailed log view of all transaction
processed on the current day. Previous day(s) logs are also saved so the archive
transactions are traceable.
